In this time of immense need for change and evolution, reconnecting with your authentic self is an important step towards acting with compassion (for self and others) and aligned intention. To explore your inner world, needs and power is such a needed and beautiful way to support each other and foster authentic understanding of our common humanity.

Your words, habits, behaviors, thoughts and intentions all impact the world and those in it. Small ripples can have big impacts. There is beauty in our interconnectedness but also responsibility. To make a positive difference in the world, we need to approach ourselves and our self-growth with compassion as well.

Through your actions to care for yourself, to show yourself compassion, to respectfully question your thoughts and beliefs and to move forward with intention, you activate the power to change reality outside of yourself as well. When you feel frustrated, overwhelmed, angry or confused with outer circumstances, become curious about your inner world as well. As you raise your mindfulness and consciousness you are better able to transcend problems with creative solutions and higher awareness.

Throughout my book, The Whole Cure: 52 Essential Prescriptions to Overcome Overwhelm, Reclaim Balance and Reconnect with a Life You Love! and my new Mindfulness Resources for Crisis and Self-Healing Package the exercises I share are designed to help you build mindfulness into your everyday life, strengthen resiliency, reconnect with your authentic self, and find that space between your triggers and response.

Reconnect with Your Authentic Self for Transformation “If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.” ~ Lao Tzu #mindfulness #selfcare #selfgrowth #mindful #innerpeace #joy #yoga

Your Authentic Self

We each have an authentic self and many gifts to share in our own unique way. Unfortunately, judgement, conformity, bias and many factors often contribute to a push towards drowning out our intuition and authentic selves. This pressure for conformity and habitual unquestioned thoughts can result in self-censoring, feeling unworthy and separating from our authentic selves and from each other.

Mindfulness based practices can facilitate a greater awareness of these factors so that you can live more intentionally and genuinely. Tools like this help us take a step towards unlearning beliefs we took on that were not our own, sitting with empathy and compassion for the factors others face that may be different than our own and opening to the self-realization that you came into the world fully equipped with many gifts to share to contribute to the a more compassionate world.

When you connect with who you truly are and recognize what you want to create free from conditioned beliefs and imposed barriers, you have greater freedom to create the future you desire.

Our energy is the force behind our efforts. The same type of energy that fuels fear, greed, anger, envy, aggression, and violence can on the other side fuel self-discipline, hope, honesty, compassion, benevolence, kindness and loving action.

How to Reconnect with Your Authentic Self

Now is a time when we have been presented with a shift, a pause, a time to reconsider our way of living and being in the world. If we are burdened with fear or another kind of overwhelm, we can use effort to stop and wonder, “What is the part of me that is not afraid and overwhelmed?”

Making this effort to be with discomfort can allow you to use it to fuel transformation by becoming aware of your thoughts and conditioned responses. With mindfulness, you can shift from the cycles of reliving the past and anticipating the future and instead fully inhabit your body in the moment to be your most authentic self.

This process is not meant to be confused with shame or blame, but instead is to open you up to curiosity, vulnerability and openness. This is how we learn, respectfully question, unlearn and evolve.

Find Stillness to Connect Your Body and Mind to be Your Authentic Self

Mindfulness gives you the attention to the present moment which can help you engage in building self-awareness. This helps you acknowledge your strengths and limitations, identify your true purpose, and move forward with aligned intention and action.

Commit to small moments and practices of mindfulness on a regular basis. When you are disconnected from the present moment it is easy to be disconnected with your true self. Find what works for you to deepen your connection with your true self.

Some practices that you can experiment with that help you engage in mindful awareness include:

Who am I? Journaling Exercise for Exploring Your Authentic Self

One journaling exercise to explore your authentic self involves an open-ended exploration of the question ‘Who am I?’ While reflecting on this seemingly straightforward question you may uncover some descriptors that come from your status, affiliations, family, social circles, achievements, titles, profession, etc. If these come up, see if you can dig deeper into who you really. Explore how you can answer this question solely from your inner authentic self. You know yourself in a way no one else can and in a way that no outside labels can capture.

Bring Your Authentic Self to All Encounters

Being authentic and vulnerable in your relationships frees others to be themselves as well and allows you to connect beyond appearances and superficial factors. Showing up as your authentic self helps you act from a place of integrity instead of putting on a performance to be who you feel you are supposed to be due to conditioned fears and demands.

It requires courage and awareness to truly be the real you and relate honestly with yourself and others. To do so, you need to truly know who you are, what you hold dear and how you want to show up in the world. To embrace your authentic self you must show up awake and aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions one moment at a time. This way you are able to speak and act with integrity, genuineness, empathy and acceptance while holding space for others to do the same.
