Move Outdoors

Both movement and nature are so healing to the body and mind. We have evolved to be more relaxed in natural spaces and to be in touch with the earth. 

Movement works synergistically with the stress-relieving power of nature. Exercise boosts endorphins which help boost the mood and combat stress. Being outdoors in nature can augment those benefits.

Take a hike in the woods or along the beach and breathe in the calming force of nature. Take time to playoutdoors or run around outside with your children or pets. Try a walking meeting outside or take a break during your day to get out into nature.

Rest & Rejuvenate

Despite a crazy to-do list, prioritizing sleep is crucial for beating stress. Ayurvedic Medicine encourages us to synchronize our lives with the natural cycles of nature. By going to sleep before 10pm each evening and arising before 6am with the cycles of the sun, we can fall asleep more easily and waken more refreshed. Aim for a consistent bedtime that will allow you to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each evening. Practice good sleep habits and keep your bedroom calm, dark, quiet and free of technology so you can fully relax.

One of the most powerful ways to reduce the negative impacts of stress is to cultivate the ability to be more present in each moment.

When we are disconnected from ourselves, our communities and our passions, daily life can seem overwhelming. Sometimes we get so caught up in all that doing that we cease to simply be. This chronic stress takes a crucial toll on our health. Living a life of constant stimulation and striving for something outside of our true selves causes stress on mental, physical and spiritual levels. As the famous psychologist Abraham Maslow once said, “The ability to be in the present moment is a major component of mental wellness.” The power we gain when we cultivate the ability to be present, is central to finding an oasis of calm amidst all the chaos.
