I find that my body can naturally stay balanced and detoxed when I give it the proper inputs to allow it to do its job while avoiding unnecessary toxic inputs that can bog down internal detox systems. One group of essential inputs for balancing detoxification and fueling metabolism are minerals.

Mineralize Your Life!
Minerals are inorganic, essential nutrients. The proper balance of minerals in the body is crucial for many tissues and enzymes to function and for your muscles to work properly without cramping.
- Calcium is the most essential mineral for the buildup and upkeep of bones and teeth.
- Calcium supports the flow of impulses between nerves and muscles.
- Calcium is important especially for children, teens and pregnant women.
The body needs magnesium to support over 300 biochemical processes including muscle and nerve function and balanced immunity. Magnesium supports healthy energy metabolism, muscle function, and nervous system function.
- Magnesium supports your metabolism.
- Magnesium is crucial for the function of your muscles and nervous system.
- Bicarbonate regulates the acid-base balance.
- Bicarbonate helps to minimize the effects of occasional heartburn since it provides an acid neutralizing effect in the stomach.
I find it is especially helpful for me to pay attention to my mineral and electrolyte balance during the hot weather or when I am exercising heavily or using my infrared sauna often.
Since the body cannot make these minerals, you need to get them from natural mineral water, food or other sources.
A Sparkling Way to Replenish Minerals: Mineral Water
One of my favorite ways to make sure I consume balanced minerals in their natural state is with mineral water. Since the minerals are dissolved in the water, the human body more easily absorbs them, meaning they are more bioavailable for the body to use.
Mother Nature carries out a remarkable process to provide these unique mineral waters. As precipitation slowly trickles down through layers of bedrock, the water becomes mineralized with a balance of calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate or other minerals that are naturally found in the rock.
The exact mineral content and composition can vary a lot depending on the source. You can compare the mineral content of different waters here.
One of my favorite mineral waters is Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water which contains many natural minerals like calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate that are essential for everyday cellular activity. Due to its origin in the German Volcanic Eifel which has unique highly-mineralized dolomite rock, Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water contains more minerals and trace elements than most other mineral waters in the world, 2,500mg minerals per liter. It is therefore classified as ‘highly mineralized.’ Even with all of these dissolved minerals, it has a refreshingly clean and neutral taste since the minerals are well-balanced. It is also naturally carbonated, which is a nice way to spice up your hydration routine!
