While I generally prefer to rely on freshly cooked, simple meals based on real, whole foods, there are times when we all need a grab-and-go option! For snacking on the go, Amrita Bars offer a simple, real food-based option that tastes great and provides a portable package of natural energy.

When I first read the story of Amrita Bars, I was intrigued. Arshad, the founder of Amrita Bars, is a dedicated athlete and father who was searching for a way to support his son when he was diagnosed with autism and gastrointestinal issues. I greatly respect his philosophy of reducing inflammation with plant-based nutrition and reducing one’s allergen load to help the body recover from daily stresses

Amrita means “nectar of the gods” in sanskrit, reflecting the abundance of super foods and real ingredients packed into each bar. Non-GMO ingredients like chia seeds, maca, sesame seeds, unsweetened coconut, fruit and dates provide essential fats, antioxidants, fiber and proteins without added allergens from nuts, dairy and soy.  On average, at least 70% of the ingredients are also organic.open cranberry amrita bar

These bars are raw, vegan and contain naturally occurring vitamins, minerals and nutrients without added artificial sweeteners, processed fillers or synthetic nutrition. Because they lack preservatives, they are best stored in a cool place where they will stay fresh for at least 9 months.

Amrita Bars come in a variety of fresh flavors including Chocolate Maca, Mango Coconut, Pineapple Chia, Apple Cinnamon, Cranberry Raisin and Apricot Strawberry. All flavors are gluten-free, peanut-free, treenut-free, dairy-free, soy-free, corn-free and egg-free. Amrita offers a variety pack as well, so you can try out the whole range and see which are your favorites or you can select any 2 bars to try with free shipping for only $3 (use coupon code 2for3 at checkout)!

Amrita Energy Bars contain around 200 calories with about 60% carbohydrates, 15% protein and 25% fat as well as 4g fiber, 1000mg omega-3 fatty acids and plant-based iron and calcium. Amrita Protein Bars contain similar balanced nutrition with around 230 calories breaking down to 50% carbohydrates, 25% protein and 25% fat.

open cut amrita barI was impressed with the soft, moist texture of these bars and the simple appearance that highlights the natural ingredients without artificial colorings, textures or flavors. The base of the bars are mainly composed of date paste, brown rice protein, sunflower seed butter and sunflower and sesame seeds, giving them a very moist and mildly sweet flavor without the addition of high levels of refined sugars or artificial sweeteners.

Because they are based on real food and are therefore quite nutrient-dense, I found the bars to be satisfying without causing digestive upset or being overly filling. Overall, these bars are a tasty option for allergy-friendly lunchboxes (even in peanut-free/nut-free classrooms!), travel snacks and pre- or post-workout fuel

You can find Amrita Bars at Whole Foods, Sprouts and other markets across the country as well as online at Amazon, Vitacost or from the Amrita Health Foods website

I am very excited to offer one lucky reader the chance to try out a variety pack of Amrita bars! Amrita bars will send the winner a fantastic prize of a Variety Pack consisting of all their delicious flavors! You get the one of each: high protein Chocolate Maca, Mango Coconut, Pineapple Chia, Apple Cinnamon, Cranberry Raisin, and Apricot Strawberry.
